Counter intuitive sounding first step - isolate all the objectives results I am due from a task, and completely ignore them in favour of skills. This is because if you attach your motivation to an objective outcome, you lose motivation. This is just how it is with some people, which I believe includes me. I see through the shallowness of most of these objective results, they really have no real meaning or worth! So, instead of resting on the contingent nature of objective goals, break down a task into multiple lists of skills that I would benefit from by completing said task. 2. Identify things that 'move the needle.' This helps us to commit to the tasks that we might not so much want to do, but actually leads to progress, which is a massive factor in motivation. 3. Strategic detachment - Don't get caught up in the details of what you are currently working on too much, remember that this will pass and the larger picture is the overall path of your life, these are just elements that add to the greater 'goal' of living your life well. 4. Instinct building - Be aware, especially when you are feeling down, that you have the opportunity to build up your instincts, whatever that may be, there is always something that we can learn to gain finer awareness of appropriate to the situation and life. Try to intentionally learn to be aware and think of short feedback loops that help to reframe what you are learning from your experience at any given time - there is always something to learn!
