Professor Jan Øberg, born in 1951, is a Danish sociologist and peace researcher based in Lund, Sweden. He co-founded the Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research (TFF) in 1985, serving as its director. TFF is an independent organisation dedicated to promoting “peace by peaceful means” and aims to abolish war through [[Empirical]] analysis, criticism, and the development of constructive peace proposals.
With over 40 years of experience, Professor Øberg has engaged in conflict analysis, mediation, and peacebuilding efforts in regions such as Yugoslavia, Georgia, Burundi, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. He has also held visiting professorships in Japan, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland, contributing extensively to the academic field with numerous publications on international conflict and peace.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Professor Øberg is an accomplished [[Art]] photographer. He established Oberg PhotoGraphics in 2009, where he explores art and abstract [[photography]], as well as documentary work from conflict zones, aiming to depict [[hope]] rather than [[violence]].
