# Decision details ## Rights of Rivers: A Charter for the River Ouse - [Find out more about this issue](https://democracy.lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk/mgIssueHistoryHome.aspx?IId=21613&Opt=0 "Link to issue history for Rights of Rivers: A Charter for the River Ouse") Decision Maker: Cabinet member for climate, [[Nature]] and food systems Decision status: Recommendations Approved Is Key decision?: No Is subject to call in?: Yes ### Purpose: To present the Rights of Rivers Charter, co-developed with [Love Our Ouse](https://loveourouse.org) and partners since the related Motion was approved at Full Council in February 2023. ### Decision: To support the principles within the Rights of Rivers Charter, co-developed with Love Our Ouse and partners. ### Reasons for the decision: Lewes District Council has worked to protect the River Ouse, improve water quality and restore wetlands in partnership with the Sussex Wildlife Trust, Ouse & Adur Rivers Trust (OART) and others since 2017. Supporting the Rights of Rivers Charter honours the spirit of the motion of Full Council in February 2023. ### Alternative options considered: There is [[Ecology|environmental]] protection legislation and a regulatory framework in place which is arguably fit for purpose.
